SarahMo Ripple Vest Test Knit Application

Thank you for your interest in joining the SarahMo Knitting Journey as a pattern tester!

Deadline for the Test Knit:  5 August 2025

The pattern is written for sizes XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL.  The photos show M, L and XL but keen to get testers for the other sizes.

I will need you to work to a deadline for the test knit, feedback and photos. I hope you will support me in helping me ensure the pattern is of the highest quality after time spent designing, knitting (and re-knitting it), writing the pattern and having it edited by the wonderful global editor Kate Atherley.

As a token of my appreciation, testers will receive the final version of the pattern and can select 2 other patterns within the Knitting Journey Collection, as they are released.

The SarahMo Knitting Journey

I am developing patterns for all levels from 1 to 10, each level building on the previous level to provide beginner knitters hope and inspiration.  Graded 1 to 10 to help knitters navigate their knitting journey.

I have graded the Bondi Girl Vest a Level 4 as it introduces two key techniques - neck and armhole shaping using simple decreases and zigzag seaming for the side seams.  It also includes optional techniques such as embroidery and crochet, offering added interest for more advanced knitters.

Needles

Straight Needles  12 mm / US 17.

Circular Needles (for neckband) - 10 mm / US 15 - 50-60 cm / 20-24 in length.

Yarn

Any super chunky yarn can be used as long as you match gauge. Always knit a gauge swatch beforehand and adjust your needle size if necessary.   Here is the yarn that I used.

Gauge

8 stitches and 15 rows to 10 cm / 4 in garter stitch on 12 mm / US 17 needles after blocking.

Construction

This crew neck vest is worked flat from the bottom up in garter stitch, creating soft texture and rhythmic movement throughout. The optical flower motif is added later using surface embroidery, offering a bold visual element with a handcrafted feel. A delicate crocheted edge is worked at the hem, neckline and armholes, adding a refined finishing touch.

You will work the back first, allowing you to customise the length before shaping the front. Gentle shaping is introduced at the armholes and neckline (using simple decreasing stitches) to achieve a balanced and comfortable fit. Shoulder seams are joined using the Horizontal Mattress Stitch technique for a smooth finish, and the sides are brought together with the Selvedge Nub Seam / Zigzag technique for clean,
