About SarahMo
Tribute to Irish Knitting
SarahMo is a nod to my beloved Irish grandmother, Sarah, and my lovely mum Maureen (Mo), who were very highly skilled in the art of knitting. My Wee (meaning small) Gran taught me how to knit in front of her open fire when I was a little girl, at a time when the troubles in Northern Ireland were at their worst. I will never forget those painful lessons of having to rip out my knitting, just to get it perfect for my Wee Gran. But she taught me well and those lessons began my lifelong love of knitting. Although I’m not sure what she would make of all the Excel spreadsheets now required to generate a single pattern.
About me
I moved to Australia in 2002 (after the British Lions) and now live in Bondi, Sydney with my gorgeous husband - although he has a lot to put up with given my obsession with knitting. I also love sport, particularly rugby union and have had the privilege of playing for Ireland back in the day. I also enjoy travel, exercise and staying healthy after going through breast cancer twice some years back.
What I find really enjoyable about knitting is the creative side it opens up for me. I also love giving a handmade creation away to those I love, knowing they will cherish it and smile when they put it on, remembering the happy times that we have both shared. It's also amazing for my mental health, allowing me to escape from day to day stresses while keeping my brain active and working with my hands. It is so relaxing, you might find (like me) that it becomes a little obsessive. My husband tells me I might need some professional help for that…
